Málaga CF women's team falls 1-0 in Huelva and is eliminated from the Copa

A penalty converted in minute 79 gave victory to the Huelva side and confirmed Málaga CF's elimination from the cup, as the team now focuses on the League.

Málaga CF Femenino said goodbye to the Copa after losing 1-0 at Estadio Antonio Toledo Sánchez, home of Ciudad Deportiva Francisco Mendoza, in Huelva. The Huelva side advances to the second round of the tournament, while the Málaga players will now focus all their efforts on the Liga championship.

Coach Héctor Díaz made numerous changes to the starting lineup compared to the league debut against Guiniguada Apolinario. Starting from the beginning were Celia; Encarni, Belén, Yoli Peche (captain), Elsa; Carmela, Marina Tomás, Noemi, Alba Navarro; Torralvo and Lucía Correro.

The match, played on a hot afternoon, was very even, with alternating dominance and few clear chances. It reached halftime tied at zero.

In the second half, Héctor Díaz brought on Lucía Ramos and the reserve team players Yessenia, Lucía Alarcón and Sara looking for a change in the match. It was in the final stretch when the match was decided: home player Gasienica converted a penalty in the 79th minute to make it a final 1-0.

Already in stoppage time, Lucía Ramos had the chance to force a penalty shootout, but her shot hit the post.

With this defeat, Málaga CF is eliminated from the Copa competition. The team's next fixture will be in the Liga, on Saturday at 17.00 hours, at the ground of Cacereño Femenino Atlético.
